OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
The oil pressure switch is located on the right side of the
crankcase behind the timing gear cover. The switch is
powered through the Lights fuse and the low oil pressure
indicator lamp.
At startup, the oil pressure switch is closed and the low oil
pressure indicator lamp is illuminated. As the oil pressure
rises to normal operating levels, the switch opens and
extinguishes the indicator lamp. While the engine is running,
if the oil pressure drops to below 3 - 5 psi, the switch closes
illuminating the indicator lamp.
Caution
• If the low oil pressure indicator lamp does not illuminate
at startup, inspect the oil pressure switch (see OIL
PRESSURE SWITCH INSPECTION page 18-22) .
• If the low pressure indicator lamp remains lit while the
engine is running, stop the engine immediately. Check
the oil level and test the system pressure
(see OIL
PRESSURE TEST page 3-3) .

1. Disconnect the oil pressure switch wire and remove the
oil pressure switch (see OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
REMOVAL page 18-21) .
2. Install an oil pressure gauge in the switch port.
3. Start the engine and allow it to warm to operating
temperature.
4. Increase the engine speed to 3000 rpm.
Standard: 45 - 75 psi
5. Turn the engine off at the main switch and reinstall the
pressure switch.
Torque: 12 ft-lbs
