INSPECTION
To remove large particles from the element, strike the open
face of the element sharply against a clean, flat surface.
To remove smaller particles from the element, use low-
pressure air and blow from the inside out.
WARNING
• Wear face protection since low-pressure air can blow
debris into your eyes and face.
1. CLEANING DIRECTION
INSTALLATION
1. Install the air cleaner element and the three screws.
Torque: 8 ft-lbs
2. Install the air cleaner cover and three screws.
Torque: 8 ft-lbs
THROTTLE BODY
REMOVAL
1. Remove the air cleaner (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL
page 4-139) .
2. Remove the four nuts on the air cleaner backplate.
3. Pull the air cleaner backplate from the mounting studs,
leaving the breather hose and air temperature sensor
connected.
4. Remove air cleaner gasket.

5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the throttle position
sensor and the idle air control.
6. Turn both throttle cable adjusters (below throttle grip) into
the cable housing as far as possible.
7. Disconnect the throttle cables from the throttle body.
Notice
On California models, disconnect the throttle body vent
tube from the throttle body.
