INSPECTION
1. Clean all cylinder parts and blow out all fluid ports with
compressed air.
Caution
Do not use mineral base solvents to clean brake parts.
2. Visually inspect the cylinder bore. If there is evidence of
scoring, pitting, or corrosion, replace the master cylinder
assembly.
3. Inspect the brake hose port and brake hose fitting. The
machined surfaces must be absolutely free of damage. If any
damage is observed, replace the master cylinder or the brake
hose.
4. Inspect the diaphragm for cuts, tears, and deterioration.
Replace the diaphragm if necessary.

ASSEMBLY
1. Clamp the master cylinder securely in a padded vise.
2. Insert a new piston return spring into the master cylinder
with the larger windings toward the brake hose port.
Caution
For proper master cylinder operation, always use a new
piston kit when assembling the master cylinder.
3. Lubricate the new piston assembly with clean DOT 5
hydraulic fluid and carefully press it into the master cylinder.

4. Use a 1/4" dia. piece of wooden dowel to push the piston
past the retaining ring groove in the cylinder bore.
5. Install a new retaining ring with retaining ring pliers.
6. Push a new dust boot into the cylinder bore.
Notice
Make sure the retaining ring and dust boot are
completely seated in the cylinder bore. Be careful not to
damage the dust boot during installation.
