27. Lubricate the camshaft journals with a molybdenum oil
solution. Lubricate the camshaft journal holder and bearing
caps with engine oil.
28. Place the camshafts in their respective journal holders
and align the camshaft timing marks with the idler gear timing
marks as shown.
Notice
The camshafts are stamped either “IN” for intake, or “EX”
for exhaust on the end opposite the gear.

29. Install the camshaft bearing caps and tighten the
mounting bolts evenly in a diagonal sequence.
Torque: 90 in-lbs
Notice
To aid in returning the camshaft bearing caps to their
original location they are cast with a number that
matches a number/location cast in the cylinder head. The
arrow head near the number on the bearing cap should
point toward the camshaft gear.

30. Check to make sure all the front cylinder timing/index
marks are aligned. Adjust if necessary.
31. Use a wrench on the alternator rotor bolt to rotate the
engine counterclockwise approximately 310° until the |R
mark on the cam drive gear aligns with the index mark.
