11. Connect the fuel pump power jumper wire to the wiring 
harness and the fuel pump.

12. Attach the ground clamp to motorcycle ground.

13. To run the pump, move the main switch to the 

On

 

position. To stop the pump, move the main switch to the 

Off

 

position.

14. Run the pump until the fuel tank is almost empty.

Caution

Stop the fuel pump before it runs dry. Running the fuel 
pump without fuel will damage the pump.

REMOVAL

1.

Disconnect the battery beginning with the negative 

battery cable 

(see Chapter 16. BATTERY/CHARGING 

SYSTEM)

.

2.

Open the right gas cap to relieve pressure in the fuel 

tank. Close the gas cap.

3.

Remove the tandem saddle and the rider’s saddle 

(see 

Chapter 2. BODY/EXHAUST)

.

4.

Remove the rear fuel tank mounting screw and isolator.

Remove the instrument cluster 

(see Chapter 18. 

LIGHTS/GAUGES/SWITCHES)

6.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the instrument 

cluster, fuel pump, and fuel level sensor.
