PISTONS
REMOVAL
1. Remove the cylinders (see CYLINDER REMOVAL page
7-4)
2. Place a clean rag over the crankcase cylinder opening to
prevent the piston pin clip from entering the crankcase.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the first and second compression rings from the
piston using a piston ring expander.
2. Remove the oil control expander ring.
3. Remove the oil control rings using a piston ring expander.

4. Remove and discard the piston pin clips.
Caution
Do not reuse piston pin clips. The removal process can
weaken them, causing them to break or dislodge,
resulting in engine damage.
5. Using the piston pin puller, remove the piston pin from
the piston. Remove the piston from the connecting rod.

1. Use an old piston ring to remove carbon deposits from
the pistons. Clean carbon from the ring grooves and slots
behind the expander and oil control rings.
2. Wash the pistons and piston pins with soapy water and
rinse thoroughly with clean water. Dry the pistons with low
pressure compressed air and a lint free shop rag.
3. Apply a light coating of oil to the piston pins and piston
pin bores.
