j. Using a .05 inch balldriver, loosen the rotational [focus] screw on the
ATR slide enough to rotate the crystal.
k. From the Collect drop-down menu select collect sample, select the
default spectrum title or enter a title, click OK and leave the sample
collection in preview mode.
l. Rotate the crystal for maximum throughput (see bullet points below)
and when complete, secure the rotational [focus] screw.
Note
Observe the throughput while securing the rotational screw. If
throughput degrades, loosen the setscrew and iterate between rotation and
securing the setscrew to maintain maximum throughput.

When rotating the crystal, do not push up on the crystal; use your finger at
the edge crystal mount to rotate.
•
Throughput using a sample aperture size of 100 x 100µm should be equal
or better than 30% of reflectance at 4000 wavenumbers. Refer to the
following page.
