1. Information Tag
Replacing the Node
This section describes how to remove and replace the DXi6900-S Node. If removing and replacing
individual FRUs and CRUs does not resolve service problems, then the entire Node must be replaced.
Caution:
This procedure requires that the drives from the failed Node be removed and installed in the
replacement Node. This is necessary to retain the customer data. If the customer requires that the new
drives included in the replacement Node be used, you must reinstall the system software (see the
DXi6900-S Software Installation and Upgrade Guide
, and the customer data currently on the system
will be lost.
Caution:
Use appropriate ESD precautions, including the use of a grounding strap, when performing
this procedure.

2. Remove the Node from the rack (see
Opening and Closing the Node on page 63
).
Note:
You only need to open the cover if there is an optional network card installed in PCIe slot 2
(see step 4 below).
3. Remove all drives from the failed Node (see

You
must
note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before removal so
that you can install each of them in the correct location in the replacement Node.
