5.9.8 Load correction
The open correction and short correction functions can correct (subtract) the stray admittance and residual
impedance that exist in measurement results. Those functions can remove the residual and stray
components of each frequency, but they cannot correct gain errors. For example, the gain error of the
current-voltage converter (error in the resistance value of a shunt resistor ) or gain error in a voltage
detector, etc. cannot be improved by open correction or short correction. As illustrated in "
Figure 5-25
Load correction operation
", it is necessary to perform load correction to correct errors that are caused by
a slope component in the signal.
Figure 5-25
Load correction operation
Load correction uses a standard impedance that has a known value as a reference to correct measurement
errors that are due to the circuit network that connects the measurement ports of the instrument to the DUT.
For accurate correction, the impedance of the standard impedance device should be as close as possible to
the impedance of the DUT.
Load correction is always performed together with open correction and short correction. Assuming a linear
two-port paired circuit network, it is possible to eliminate error due to the connection network by
performing open, short, and load correction. Load correction also has the effect of reducing small errors in
frequency, signal level, and measurement range that occur under certain conditions. However, if the
assumed model differs from the actual model, error may actually be increased rather than decreased.
Setup and measurement are performed by the procedure described below.
1) Set the measurement conditions, including the sweep frequency range, the measurement range, and
the oscillator amplitude, etc. Set the display unit to
