Keysight 5500 SPM User’s Guide

Optimizing the KFM Servo Setpoint for AM Mode Imaging

When using AM mode, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the KFM
Servo Setpoint to compensate for dependence on tip-sample separation.
The fine tuning of the KFM Servo Setpoint parameter can be done by
observing how the SP responds to changing tip height.

To check this, go to the Spectroscopy window, which should be set to

Amplitude vs Distance, and open another channel to observe SP. Run an

infinite number of sweeps over a very small distance range and observe
how SP changes with distance. If SP is sloped, then adjust the KFM
Servo Setpoint slowly until it is horizontal.

sweep before and after the KFM Servo Setpoint has been adjusted. Note
the difference in the vertical scale between before and after.
