B.3.4.2.2 Construct and Install the AHRS Cover
It is recommended a subfloor be installed in the baggage compartment to cover all equipment in this
location, where the new floor typically rests at the height of the box that covers the elevator control tube.
Alternately, a cover may be fabricated for the AHRS unit. The cover must provide full protection for the
unit – above, sides, forward, and aft.
The purpose of the cover for the AHRS in the baggage compartment is to reduce the chance of baggage
impacting the AHRS unit during loading and unloading, as well as in-flight turbulence. The installer has
the option to create a false floor across this compartment, to provide similar protection for other
equipment installed in the area. At a minimum, the installer is to fashion a simple composite cover as
demonstrated in Figure B-80.

The cover must provide adequate clearance forward for the harness assembly. It must provide adequate
clearance above the unit to ensure deflection of the bracket does not touch the unit. The cover must also
provide full protection on each side of the AHRS, extending outboard to the side of the fuselage and
inboard to the elevator control tube box. Otherwise, sides must be included on the cover.
