REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL

N O TE: Service shim s are av ailable from
.070" to .122" in in crem en ts o f .004".

Rem ove the p in io n sh aft, p in io n gears, side gear,

clutch pack and shim from the case.

Install the opposite gear, clutch pack an d original

shim into the opposite side o f the case. Place both
p inion gears, and thrust w ash ers into position, and

install the p in io n shaft.

Follow the procedure in steps 5, 6 and 7 to
d eterm in e the p ro p er shim d im ension.

W hen the p ro p er shim s have been d eterm in e d to
achieve .005" to .008" b acklash betw een both

p in io n gears and both side gears, install shim s,
clutch packs and side gears in to case.

M ount the case onto the axle sh a ft locked in a vise
Place b o th p in io n s a n d th ru s t w a sh e rs in to

p o sitio n —180°apart—an d carefu lly "ro ll in "

tu rn in g the case on the sh aft.

pattern .
