Install every other rin g g e a r bolt and draw rin g

g ear up evenly until g e a r is seated ag ain st flange.

R em ove guide pins an d in stall re m a in in g rin g gear
bolts. T o rq u e bolts to specifications.

Side Gear Yoke Bearing and/or Seal Replacement

1.

Place new yoke b earin g s on In staller J-9773 and

install  b ea rin g   into  c a rrie r  bore  using  H an d le
J-7079-2.  See  Figure  6C.  D riv e  b e a rin g   until  it  is
fully  seated.

2.

Place a new seal on In staller J-9774 an d install into
seal bore o u tb o ard o f b e a rin g as in F ig u re

1C.

Installation and Adjustment

1.

Check  co n d itio n   o f  b e a rin g   cups,  cup  seat  in  carrie r
and  c a rrie r  caps  to  m ake  sure  they  are  free  from
nicks,  burrs  an d   fo reig n   m ate rial.

2.

L ubricate b e arin g s w ith axle lu b rican t. Position

cups on p ro p e r b earin g s th en install differential

assem bly in c a rrie r as show n in F ig u re 8C. Install
rig h t b e a rin g cap, tig h te n in g the bolts to a snug fit.

3.

Service  spacers  are  av ailab le  in   one  thickness  only—
.170"  plus  or  m inus  .001".  Steel  service  shim s  are
used  w ith  the  service  spacer.  See  follow ing  Shim
C h a rt  fo r  shim   av a ila b ility   a n d   identification.

N O T E : P roduction p re lo a d in g o f the differ
en tial bearin g s is accom plished by the use o f

cast iron shim s. T hese shim s ca n n o t be used

w hen re b u ild in g the c a rrie r as they m ay

break w hen tap p e d into place.
