5 DEPARTURES
5.1 Taxiing
Taxi can only be carried out from the left seat. During the taxi to the holding point, the FO will
obtain the departure clearance.Taxiing is normally initiated by cycling the PCL’s to feather and
return to the full forward position, cycle is limited to 30 seconds (see AFM 4-12).
It is recommended to use fine pitch propeller setting with a short feather position setting time (max
30s, due to leading edge surface overheating) for reducing taxi speed.
During taxiing vent the propellers hydraulic system by feathering of the left and right propeller by
PCL. When the propeller speed drops to 350 to 400 RPM, return the PCL to the forward position.
During taxiing check the possibility of reverse power setting and BETA RANGE cell coming on when
TCL is moved from idle power to reverse power position. PCL is set to fine pitch.
During taxing check turn and bank indicator function on attitude indicator on the PFD.
To improve outlook during taxiing it is possible to open cockpit windows.
In case of waiting on ground, strictly avoid reversing and feathering at zero speed. Use fine pitch
propeller setting and idle power setting. Use parking brakes for keeping the airplane in place.
Taxi at a moderate speed and avoid making sharp turns, as this will putunnecessary side loads on
the undercarriage. Taxi speeds shall be moderate. The GS on the GPS can be used as a reference.
Turning speed shall not exceed10 knots. Taxi speed on long straight taxiways or runways shall not
compromisecontrollability of the aircraft, not to exceed 27 knots. When maneuvering to parkor in
the vicinity of obstacles, limit speed to below 5 knots. Use of Beta will
greatly reduce the need for braking and extend brake life.
CAUTION
Using Reverse Pitch to reverse the aircraft is strictly prohibited.
