3.12 Terrain Awareness
Although all Susi Air L410UVP-E20 Aircraft are equipped withTAWS, it is essential
crews are aware that this is a tool to increase situational awareness and NOT tobe
used for primary terrain avoidance. Awareness of minimum IFR altitudes
andadherence to company procedures should prevent any warnings
fromoccurring. If warnings do occur it is essential crew members act
withouthesitation (for crew coordination and procedures, refer toChapter10,
Section 10.4 - TAWS TERRAIN WARNINGS).
WARNING
TAWS information shall not be used for primary terrain avoidance.
TAWS isintended only to enhance situational awareness.
TAWS provides the following alerts:
1.
Forward Looking Terrain Avoidance (FLTA):
Reduced Required Terrain Clearance (RTC), Reduced Required Obstacle
Clearance (ROC):
Issue an alert when flight path is projected to come within the minimum
clearance values shown in Tab. 1. A threat location indicator is displayed
on the TAWS Page.

Imminent Terrain Impact (ITI), imminent Obstacle Impact (IOI):
Issue an alert when the airplane’s projected vertical flight path is
calculated to come within minimum clearance altitudes shown in Tab. 1.
3.
Premature Descent Alerting (PDA)
Issue an alert when the airplane is significantly below the normal approach
path to a runway. It begins within 15 NM of the destination airport and ends
when the airplanes is either 0.5 NM from RWY threshold or at altitude of 125
feet AGL while within 1.0 NM of the RWY threshold.
