Planning the Configuration
Before you start configuring the Gateway we recommend that you plan the procedure. This
section reviews the items to consider when planning the configuration.
Prerequisites
IP Addresses
The L2W-323 Gateway operates on an IP-based LAN. Each L2W-323 Gateway unit must
have a unique IP address. Prepare an IP address for each new unit you want to connect to
your network.
The L2W-323 Gateway leaves the factory with a default IP address. You have to change
this IP by assigning the L2W-323 Gateway a unique IP address according to your network
IP addressing scheme. Because of the nature of packet transportation on the IP network, you
can only change the IP address of one new unit at a time.
We recommend you assign an IP address to a new Gateway before you connect it to the
network. This is achieved by connecting the Gateway to a PC with a crossover Ethernet
cable. After you assign an IP address to the new Gateway, you can connect it to the
network. This is a cautionary measure that prevents accidentally changing the IP addresses
of other RADVision units connected to the network.
If your L2W-323 Gateway has a built-in Gatekeeper, it automatically uses the same IP
address as the L2W-323 Gateway. If you are using an external stand-alone gatekeeper, you
will have to assign it a separate IP address and disable the internal Gatekeeper.
The IP address you assign to the Gateway is also the IP address of the LAN port.
Note: IP addresses are the addressing mechanism of the TCP/IP protocol. For more
information, see “IP Addressing” in Appendix C.
