Preparing for Configuration

Default Password
The Gateway’s configuration is protected by a modifiable password. The default password
for all L2W-323 Gateways is
GWrv
; all passwords are case sensitive.
We recommend that you change this password
and assign a unique password for each
Gateway unit. For information, see “Modifying the Password” in Chapter 5, “Basic
Configuration.”
Services
A Gateway service (also called “Gateway prefix”) is the mechanism that allows a LAN
endpoint to choose the type of connection it wants to establish with a terminal or telephone
on a circuit-switched network. You must define the different call types you want to make
available to the Gateway system users. For example, define voice calls and video calls as
services so that users can request the correct call type when dialing out. The L2W-323
Gateway has seven default hard coded services identified by prefixes. The following table
lists some of the sample services the L2W-323 Gateway can provide:
Service
Prefix
Description
Voice call
9
For voice only calls over one B channel
Video (1 or 2) x 64 Kbps calls
82
For videoconferencing calls using 1B channel or 2B
channels.
Video (1 or 2) x 56 Kbps calls
83
For videoconferencing calls using 1B channel or 2B
channels on restricted ISDN.
V.35 256 Kbps calls
84
For high bandwidth videoconferencing calls over
V.35 or BRI ports.
V.35 224 Kbps calls
85
For high bandwidth videoconferencing calls over
V.35 or BRI ports for restricted ISDN
V.35 384 Kbps calls
86
For high bandwidth videoconferencing calls over
V.35 or BRI ports.
V.35 336 Kbps calls
87
For high bandwidth videoconferencing calls over
V.35 or BRI ports for restricted ISDN
Note: The prefixes used for V.35 services are the same as those used for bonded BRI
services. In addition, you can define services not defined by default; see “Defining
Gatekeeper Built-in Services” in Chapter 6, “Advanced Gatekeeper Configuration.”
The default L2W-323 Gateway services are also defined for the internal Gatekeeper with
identical prefixes. We recommend you use the default services, unless your endpoint phone
numbers begin with the same numeric string as the services.
In addition, the Gatekeeper can have other services not defined for the L2W-323 Gateway.
These services may be MCU, L2W-323 Gateway and terminal services.
