If you are accessing the diagnostic utility locally, verify that:

You connected the Gateway console port to a PC with the null modem cable provided
(for a pinout diagram, see “Null Modem Cable” in “Appendix A, Cable Connectors
and Pin-outs”).

Standard terminal emulator software, such as HyperTerminal™, is installed on the PC.
If you are accessing the diagnostic menus from a remote location, verify that:

An external modem is connected to the remote Gateway console port.

The external modem is configured correctly.

The PC you are using has an internal or external modem, can run standard terminal
emulator software and has a dial-up connection to the Gateway.
Creating a Dial-Up Connection to the Gateway
Refer to your terminal emulator on-line help or documentation for instructions on creating a
new dial-up connection.
Create a new dial-up connection with the following parameters:

Running the Diagnostics Utility

To run the on-line diagnostics utility
1. Run the terminal emulator. If the Gateway is at a remote site, connect to the Gateway
with the dial-up connection you created. Wait for the prompt.
2. Type
diag
at the prompt.
3. Type the user name at the User Name prompt (the default is
admin)
.
4. Type the context-sensitive password at the Password prompt (the default is
GWrv)
.
