Chapter 5 Operations after OS Installation
5.6.2 Teaming Function
■
Notes
The notes on using the teaming function are as follows:
For more details, refer to [Help] in Intel
®
PROSet.
• The teaming function is available only for Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server (SP2 or
later necessary).
• Once a Team is created, a virtual adapter (example: Intel(R) Advanced Network Services Virtual
Adapter) is created on OS. Upper protocols are bound with the virtual adapter, not each physical
adapter composing the team.
• Do not use the high-speed teaming function.
• When ALB is being used, you cannot use Windows Load Balancing Service (WLBS) or Network
Load Balancing (NLB).
• Up to four LAN ports are available for each AFT/ALB team configuration.
Up to two teams can be configured in the same system. Each system has different limitations for the
number of available LAN ports.
• Up to two LAN ports are available for each SFT team configuration. Up to two teams can be
configured in the same system.
• LAN cards in a team must be on the same network (broadcast domain). The IP address is shared.
• Only the following protocols are available for the teaming function.
• AFT/SFT: IP, NetBEUI, IPX (NCP), IPX (NetBIOS)
• ALB: IP, IPX (NCP)
Only a link down error between a LAN card (onboard LAN) and the switch it connects with, and the
equivalent errors lead to switching of the route. Therefore, if only the switch or LAN card (onboard
LAN) is partially damaged and the route being used is sound at the link level, the route will not be
switched in the team, but the communication with the Team may become an error.
