User Guide
8. Press the stage back a little until you can grab it from the back side.
9. Finish preforming by pulling from the back of the sample stage and moving the stage back and
forth until the membrane is formed as shown on the right.
The stage is now ready to be mounted on the scanner (see
Mounting the new stage and cell com-
) or stored it in its storage container (see
Storing sample stage and cell body
).
10.9 Exchanging the sample stage and cell body
The procedure in this section provides a quick path to learning the basics of changing cell bodies
and sample stages. We expect that a novice user will complete the procedure in approximately
three hours.
This procedure is designed to be performed, not merely read. If possible, perform the procedure
under the supervision of an experienced user.
The Cypher is a research grade instrument and improper use of the instrument can cause dam-
age to the instrument and injury to the user.
The following assumptions have been made:
l
You understand the aspects of running this system safely (see
).
l
You are familiar with the basic names of the hardware components and software controls (see
What is a Cypher SPM system? on page 19
).
This example procedure uses an environmental scanner equipped with an ambient stage and fluid
cell body combination and replaces that with a heater stage and gas cell body combination.
Depending on your own system, make the necessary substitutions through the procedure.
