Testing without Selecting an Asset
The ADX is most commonly used to test AC and DC motors; but it can also be used to test generators, transformers,
coils, and other devices. For that reason, the software refers to the devices tested as
Assets
.
You can use the ADX to test a device without selecting an asset, but features are limited:
You can run only RLC, DC, and Surge tests in Manual mode— no references or PD testing in Surge.
Any saved data is not automatically associated with the asset being testing.
The software uses a default test configuration that cannot be viewed or edited. The default test configuration
provides only the least conservative overcurrent protection and no other threshold limitations.
There are no limits included in the default test configuration. Overcurrent is set at 1200 amps. PPEAR is set at
10%.
There is no overvoltage protection provided during HiPot and Surge tests. ADX can ramp up to the default
maximum value for the device.
For a quick introduction, you can test without an asset to get familiar with the basic Manual mode testing features.
One practical application might be using the ADX in a shop environment for troubleshooting tasks where saving data
for long-term use is not needed.
When testing without selecting an asset, ensure that the top line of the screen shows [None] [Default] indicating no
asset is selected. If an asset is selected and you want to test without an asset selected, press or click on the DESELECT
ASSET icon in the Manual Tests screen before selecting the test you want to run.
NOTE: While selecting an asset prior to testing is the typical application, it is not required. The results can
be viewed, printed, and saved to a USB storage device connected to the ADX front panel. When saving,
you can rename the file to indicate the asset tested.

NOTE: Because the software retains and automatically reloads the last selected asset when a new testing
session begins, you might want to use the DESELECT ASSET feature to reset the system to ensure that the
next user does not accidentally collect data on the asset.
