NOTE: To conduct PD testing on the ADX, you must first select an asset with an active test configuration
assigned. Surge parameter will need to have PD enabled and PD parameters defined.
The partial discharge testing features on the ADX can be directly enabled within the Surge Test and Coil Test screens, or
within the active test configuration. The image below provides an example of a Surge Test screen with PD enabled.
Just below the STOP button is the slider that enables PD. With this slider ON, the fields below the slider become visible.
During testing, PD values are displayed in these fields along with the values for PD threshold, events, and limits. The
threshold and limit values are defined in the active test configuration for the asset being tested.
NOTE: Values for PDIV through PDEV are only displayed if PD is detected during the test. A completed
test with no PD values indicates that your insulation system does not have detectable PD activity.

When a PD surge pulse is detected, a flashing red “PD” appears adjacent to the PDEV line to alert the user.
Corresponding
spikes also appear in the PD display region (circled in example above). Most of the white lines displayed
here indicate system noise detected by the hardware.
NOTE: A value appears in the PDEV field when PDIV is recorded. That value changes as the test
progresses. A recorded PDIV value will always have a PDEV counterpart.
The Y-axis scale to the right of the waveform display area shows PD information in millivolts. The yellow lines above
and below show the PD threshold value. When spikes cross this threshold, they are counted towards the PD Event
Limit. PD EVENTS are displayed in a dedicated field.
