Test Configuration
HiPot Test Sub-section
The high potential (HiPot) test demonstrates that the ground wall insulation system can withstand a “high” applied
voltage (usually more than twice the asset’s nominal operating voltage) without exhibiting an extraordinarily high
leakage current (within defined limits) or causing the ground wall insulation to break down. Deciding which HiPot test
type to assign to the Text Configuration is an important part of defining HiPot testing.

Standard HiPot
— Applies a DC voltage to the machine’s windings at a higher voltage—usually more than twice
the voltage of the motor’s operating voltage—for 60 seconds. This is the fastest HiPot test type, but it yields less
information.
