PARAMETER
DESCRIPTION
FAULT CODE
1017
FAULT MESSAGE Exciter Field Circuit Open / Short Fault.
RESTRICTIONS
Nil
ALARM BELL
30 Seconds.
RESET LEVEL
Low, Manual
After manual reset if the fault still present, the fault will be generated
again.
FAULT
RECOVERY
Autometic when Exciter Filed Current found normal.
PROBABLE
CAUSES
1. Defective wiring (Open circuited at Ex. Gen. TB or back side TB.)
2. Defective Current Sensor.
3. Bad interlocks of EXPR. (61F-61FF, 61G-61GA)
4. Defective Ex. Gen. (Field is internally open circuited.)
5. Defective MPWM2 card.
FAULT
ISOLATION
1. Set the display mode to ‘Excitation’ under ‘Display Mode’ menu.
2. Move the master handle to Notch 1, by applying brakes.
3. If EPWM is more than 0 and EXFI is zero,
4. Check voltage between wire 61F (at EXPR 2 interlock) and
locomotive 4-wire.
A. If Voltage is zero, check 71-wire loop coming to FCP. If it is
open, identify and replace.
B. If the voltage is 72V, check 4-wire loop coming to FCP from the
locomotive 4-wire.
C. If voltage is still 0, replace the FCP.
D. If voltage is greater than 30V.
5. Check voltage between wire 61FF (at EXPR 2 interlock) and
locomotive 4-wire.
A. If the voltage between wire 61FF at FCP and locomotive 4-wire
is 0, check the EXPR 2 interlock.
B. If the voltage between wire 61FF at FCP and locomotive 4-wire
is greater than 30V, check the current sensor proper polarity.
Identify and replace the sensor.
6. Check voltage between wir LSS (E) at Exciter field winding and
locomotive 4-wire.
A. If Voltage is 0, check the Exciter field winding resistance with a
multimeter. If it is open circuited replace the Exciter Gen.
B. If Voltage is greater than 30V, check the EXPR 3 interlock
condition.
7. If still EXFI is showing zero, MPWM2 card might be defective.
Replace the card check.
