FAULT MESSAGE
Engine Speed Sensor 2 faulty.
RESTRICTIONS
--
ALARM BELL
5 sec.
RESET LEVEL
LOW, Manual
If the fault condition is still present when cleared manually, the fault
will be generated again.
FAULT
RECOVERY
Automatic when the engine RPM signal is sensed normally from Engine
Speed Sensor 2.
PROBABLE
CAUSES
1. Engine Speed Sensor 2 faulty.
2. Defective SSI unit.
3. Defective cables.
4. Defective RDB / FDB.
5. Defective MFIP16 card.
FAULT
ISOLATION
1. Shut down the engine and reset the fault manually.
2. Check the welding condition of the ESS2 weld nut on the cam gear
cover. If weld nut is slack or welding crack, remove the cam gear
cover and attend the welding.
3. Check for any slackness in the ESS2 fitment. If so, remove the
ESS2 and adjust the gap as per the Instruction manual of Doc No:
IM 46.
4. Switch OFF MPCB breaker and remove ESS2 cable connector at SSI
unit / RDB (Version 1.0 locos). Check the continuity of wires in the
ESS2 cable and ensure no short between pin-to-pin and pin to
ground.
5. After ensuring cable continuity and no ground fault, reconnect the
cable at SSI unit / RDB.
6. Switch ON MPCB breaker and measure voltage between pin B & C
of the ESS2 cable connector at ESS2 end. The voltage should be
+12V with pin C positive.
A. If the voltage is zero / less:
a) SSI unit / RDB is defective. Replace the SSI unit / RDB.
B. If voltage is +12V, reconnect the cable connector to ESS2.
Ensure tightness of connectors both at ESS2 and SSI unit /
RDB.
7. Crank the engine, check the engine RPM signal on the Display unit.
A. Raise the notch and ensure notch wise engine RPM is showing
correctly on the Display.
B. If engine RPM on Display is erratic / fluctuating / no RPM.
Replace the ESS2. Adjust the air gap as per the above-referred
Maintenance Insturctions manual.
8. Repeat point 7 and check the Engine RPM on Display unit.
A. If engine RPM on Display is erratic / fluctuating / no RPM.
MFIP16 card might be defective. Replace the card and repeat
point 7.
