UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP 5-3
UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP
Windows for Workgroups
UNIX Printing with TCP/IP requires that the workstation have TCP/IP
capability; or that the workstation can share an lpr queue on a Windows NT
server (for example) that has one. In general, if printers are not shared, an
lpr queue must be created on each workstation from which printing is
initiated. See Windows documentation about sharing printers.
Windows for Workgroups does not normally come with TCP/IP. However,
various TCP/IP facilities are available for Windows for Workgroups
workstations, including a free TCP/ IP stack provided by Microsoft. Third
party lpr spoolers are available.
The following instructions are based on the Microsoft TCP/IP stack and a
shareware lpr application that is available from various sources, including
the Print Server manufacturer.
• You will need files WFWTCP32.zip and WFWTCP32.txt for TCP/IP, and
files WLPRS41.zip and wlprspl.txt for lpr.
• You will need the BOOTPL.exe file if you wish to use the BOOTP Lite
program to set up IP parameters. The BOOTPL.exe file is located on the
Network Management Utility diskette.
