UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP 5-5
UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP
Windows for Workgroups
Assigning IP Address with BOOTP Lite
This procedure uses the BOOTP protocol. The NC-2 Print Server must be
on the same network segment as the workstation that you are using to
configure it. The TCP/IP stack must be installed and operating.
The BOOTPL.exe program works with a 16 Bit TCP/IP Stack (FTP,
NetManage, B&W, or WFWG).
1. Reset the print server.
NOTE: The BOOTP request is for a finite period of time. The print server must be freshly
reset for this to work.
2. From Program Manager under File, select Run \windows\ BOOTPL.exe.
3. Pull down the Admin menu to Configure option.
4. Enter the IP address (you want to assign to the NC-2 Print Server);
the Subnet Mask ( matching what you are using on your subnet); the
Default Gateway (your router's IP address); the MAC address of the NC-2
Print Server (Hardware Address, listed on the Status sheet as Ethernet
Address). Use colons as delimiters as shown on the status sheet rather than
the dashes that Windows uses.
5. Click on Go. You will get a message that the program is Verifying, and
then it will tell you whether the unit is active or not.
6. Wait for about five minutes for the NC-2 Print Server to reset. The Status
sheet should report the newly entered IP information.
7. Enter the MS/DOS box. At the command prompt enter:
ping [IP address of the NC-2 Print Server]
Continue until you get a reply. If you get no response, verify that TCP/IP is
enabled on the status sheet. If the IP information is not displayed on the
sheet, then repeat the above procedure.
