UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP 5-15
UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) provides a mechanism for
delivering IP addresses to hosts through an IP network, and, for the delivery
of other configuration parameters, such as a subnet mask or gateway
address.
Important: When configuring a DHCP server, you need to establish a
permanent lease or reservation for the print server. Failure to do this may
cause the same address to be given out to another host.
On power-up of the print server, a DHCP request is broadcast. Based on the
tables established on the DHCP server, the reserved IP address information
will be returned, the print server will automatically be reset and restarted
using the reserved address information.
FTP UNIX Printing
FTP printing allows users several ways to print files through the internet
directly from their favorite IP browser or other FTP client.
To print from Netscape (only Netscape 2.0 or greater), use the following
procedure:
1. Type: ftp://port1@<destination server IP address>
2. Select File.
3. Select Upload File.
NOTE: FTP printing does not support selecting multiple file names.
The selected file is now sent to the printer.
