5-4 UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP
UNIX Printing Through TCP/IP
Windows for Workgroups
Installing TCP/IP
To set up TCP/IP on the workstations, follow the instructions in the text file
for the TCP/IP stack. These instructions are part of the self-exploding files
that you downloaded from the Web site. They are the copyright of Microsoft
and cannot be included here.
Loading the lpr Spooler
The Windows lpr Spooler Version 4.1 (wlprspl.txt), provides detailed
instructions for decompressing and installing the shareware lpr spooler.
Setting Up The NC-2 Print Server
The NC-2 Print Server must be given an IP address and routing information
before being used with TCP/IP.
This can be accomplished with our providing Printer Management for
Windows if you have a NetWare connection on your network, or with Apple
Administration Program for Macintosh if there is an Apple Macintosh on
the network.
Follow the instructions for these programs provided in Section 3 or Section
4 (see Note).
NOTE: If you cannot use these programs, you can use either the BOOTP Lite program
described on p. 5-5 or the ARP procedure described on p. 5- 6.
Procedure prior to running these programs:
1. Install the NC-2 Print Server in your printer.
2. Power -up the printer.
3. Keep the status sheet handy for the Ethernet (MAC) address.
It should show that TCP/IP is enabled, but that the Protocol address is not
configured.
NOTE: If the unit already has an IP address, the IP Address procedures on the following
pages will not be required.
