tions. E-MEM effects also only access the current folder, and identify Still
Store items just by their number, not by their folder. This permits flexibility
in Still Store material management. See
page 399 for more information.
The names of stills created by previous software versions (Still 1 through
Still 50) will reside in the DEFAULT directory. These items are automati-
cally renamed Still 0001 through Still 0050 when saved.
Each Still Store still or clip actually consists of two files, one for video/key
data (.gvi extension) other for meta data (.gva extension). The Zodiak
system automatically handles these pairs of files as one entity. If you should
ever work with the files directly, the file names must not be changed, and
the files must always be managed as pairs. If one file is deleted, for
example, its pair must also be deleted.
Position, Crop, and Fenced Record
Position and crop controls affect how an image is displayed. Position con-
trols relocate the image itself, and crop controls mask the sides of the image
to display only a selected area. These controls do not change the actual
image data saved to disk. Position and crop metadata is saved along with
the image file to define what position and crop values are to be applied to
the image. This metadata can be overridden or edited to change how the
image displays.
A fenced recording, on the other hand, saves only the selected portion of
the image to disk. This can be used to reduce the amount of data saved,
which increases the number of images able to be stored and improves
loading speed. Fence size cannot be undone without re-recording the
image.
Positioning and cropping is on line and pixel boundaries. An image cannot
be moved perfectly smoothly with the Still Store (if smooth motion is
desired use a Transform Engine).
Source Selection and Video Key Pairs
Sources are selected for capture using the Still Store Aux bus (select
Still Store
). The Still Store Aux bus always operates as a video/key pair. Still
Store outputs used for capture and playback can be set up to operate as
video/key pairs, or as video only. If the Still Store output being used for
capture is set up for video only, any accompanying key signal on the Still
Store Aux bus will be discarded. If a video only source is selected for a Still
Store output pair, a duplicate of the video image will be captured to the key
channel of the Still Store output pair. If the Still Store Aux bus is set up with
a split key, that split key will be captured to a paired Still Store.
