Hold to Preview
When setting up a key, it is often desirable to see a key that is not on air or
part of the next transition. Holding down a
Key 1-4
delegation button will
replace that M/E’s preview output with a representation of that key over
the current background. User preference settings determine whether this
feature is enabled for these buttons, whether other on-air keys are shown,
and how long the preview lasts. The
Show Key
button is also available to
view the actual key control signal. See
Clip and Gain Knobs
The
Clip
and
Gain
knobs in each Keyer subpanel are used to adjust all key
types. A user preference provides a mode selection for the knobs
depending on the key type. The knobs can be defined to either adjust
Clip/Gain or Clip Hi/Clip Lo.
Linear keys usually respond best to Clip Hi/Lo settings because there is
less interaction between the transparency and opacity of the key. In con-
trast, harder keys, or those where there is a more defined transition
between transparency and opacity, respond better to Clip/Gain settings
where the threshold level (Clip) can be adjusted more precisely at the point
where the transition occurs.
The
Gain
knob increases the gain value with clockwise rotation. The higher
the gain, the harder the key.
The
Clip
knob (Clip Hi/Lo) decreases the threshold with clockwise rotation.
A decrease in clip level lowers the threshold causing more of the signal to
be keyed. The entire key signal can be keyed (fully clockwise) or none of
the key can be present (fully counterclockwise).
The
Clip
and
Gain
knob user preference settings are made in the
.
Key opacity (translucency) may also be adjusted in the Keyer menus with
a soft knob. Refer to
.
Key Type Button Group
The four buttons in the key type button group selects from five different
key types for the delegated keyer. Single button selection is available for
Linear Key, Luminance Key, Chroma Key, and Preset Pattern. An Adjust-
able Linear Key is also available. (See
Fixed and Adjustable Linear Keys on
Linear Key
The
Linear Key
button selects a fixed linear key, which uses clip and gain
values defined in Engineering Setups – Sources. These values cannot be
changed from the panel.
