What is iSCSI?

l
SCSI is an older standard used by storage devices to communicate with
PCs to exchange the data.
l
iSCSI is a TCP/IP Ethernet
-
based communication protocol.
Using iSCSI allows total freedom when placing the storage device, as long as
the existing network topology allows the storage device's destination to be
reached.
Since iSCSI is a communication protocol, it requires two parties: The initiator
and the target.

Targets:

torage devices (NAS).
l
Initiators:
Typically computers or, in our case, the GEN DAQ systems.
11.5.1
Introduction: iSCSI NAS with GEN DAQ network
By supporting the iSCSI protocol, the GEN DAQ systems can store the
recorded data directly on a storage device attached to the network.
The basic setup looks like this:
RJ45/Standard Ethernet connections
GigaBit Ethernet Switch
NAS
