MAINTENANCE

Propeller

installation

with

shear pin and cotter

pin

extending

through

the propeller

shaft.

A rubber

cap

covers both pins.

Propeller Removal

On some model engines, the shear pin is

installed

behind the

propeller.

First,

pull

the cotter

key, and then remove the propel-

ler nut, drive pin, and washer.

Because the

drive pin is not a tight

fit, the propeller

able to move on the pin and cause burrs on

the

hole.

These burrs may make removing

the

propeller

difficult.

To overcome

this

Propeller

installation

with

washer and shear pin.

The cotter

pin is installed

through

the

propeller

nut.

This type of installation

is the most popular.

Propeller

with

slot for

the shear pin.

The pin is

inserted

first,

then

the propeller

is installed

onto

the

propeller

shaft and

over

the shear pin.

OMC anti-corrosion

lubricant

that should

applied

the propeller

sheft

before

the propeller

is installed.

Such lubricant

the Shaft will not only fight

corrosion,

but

assist

in propeller

removal.
