the
cutout
switch
attached
to the armature
plate will open the
circuit
to the starter
solenoid.
If the crank-
ing system fails to operate
the starter
prop-
erly when the throttle
lever
is in the IDLE
position,
check the 20-ampere
fuse between
the
ingition
switch
BAT
terminal
and the
ammeter
GEN terminal.
If the
starter
operates
at
full
throttle
(which it should not do), check for a short
between the two white leads in the shift box
wiring.
Further
problems in the cranking system
may indicate
more
serious
problems.

Chapter
6, starter
motor sections.
DISASSEMBLING
The throttle
cable
and switch
box may
be replaced
without
removing
the shift box
from
the
boat.
If the
only service
to be
performed
is
replacement
of
the
cable,
leave the shift box in place.
1- Remove
the
Phillips
screws
on the
side
plate
of the
shift
box.
Remove
the
front side cover.
2- Notice
the screw and retainer
at the
forward
end of the
casing
guide
and just
below the throttle
lever.
Remove the screw
and retainer.
Pull the
throttle
cable
and
casting
guide free
of the shift
box.
Take
care not loose the trunion
caps, one on the
top and another on the bottom.
3- Remove the screws
from
the end of
the casting
guide and then pull the throttle
cable
free.
TAKE
CARE
not to loose the
screws and sleeve from the end of the guide.
Shift Switch Removal
4- Remove the four Phillips screws from
the top of the shift box, and then lift off the
shift box cover around the push buttons •

5- Pull
upward
and
remove
the
three
push buttons.
New buttons
are not supplied
with
replacement
switches.
Therefore,
SAVE the THREE
BUTTONS
for installation
with the new switch.
6- Pull the
red,
green,
and blue wires
from the bottom of the switch box.
7- Notice
the two small Phillips screws
on top of the switch box holding the switch
to the retainer.
Remove these two screws.
8- Work the
switch
out
of the
switch
box.
