The following items are shipped with each FRX4000:

Cable, DB9S to DB9S, for connecting the node's Console port directly to a PC
with software emulating an ASCII terminal.
●
Adapter, DB9P to DB25S, for connecting the node directly (via the above cable)
to an ASCII terminal.
●
Cable, DB9S to DB25P, for connecting an ASCII terminal via modem to the
Console port.
Other methods by which a keyboard and video device can be connected are:
●
ASCII terminal/keyboard (or PC with terminal emulation software) connected
to an async PAD port on the FRX4000.
●
ASCII terminal/keyboard (or PC with terminal emulation software) connected
to an async PAD port on a remote FRX4000 or FRX6000, through a network,
into an X.25 port in the local FRX4000.
●
Keyboard and video device on a remote FRX4000 or FRX6000.
FRX6000
Hardware in the Netlink FRX6000 includes:
●
Three types of card: RLP (RISC-based line processor) (plus attached Line
Interface Cards), Ethernet LAN adapter, and Token Ring LAN adapter. An
FRX6000 supports up to 8 RLPS, or 7 RLPs and 1 LAN card, or 6 RLPs and 2
LAN cards.
●
I/O cables.
●
Cabling for a local or remote Auxiliary Console (ASCII terminal).
●
A 19" rackmount chassis.
These components are described in detail later.
Cards
RLP
The FRX600 RLP, an i960 RISC-based line processor, provides serial interfaces, con-
necting various synchronous and asynchronous user devices to public or private net-
works. Each RLP supports up to seven protocols and up to 504 simultaneous logical
terminations. (A link into one physical/logical port on an RLP and out another port
counts as two terminations.)
Each RLP supports up to two four-port serial Line Interface Cards (LICs). The base
model of FRX6000 contains two RLPs with one LIC. (The RLP without LICs is pro-
vided to maximize the number of protocols that can be loaded in the node; some pro-
tocols are loaded onto one RLP but shared by all others in a node.) Other available
models include up to four LICs.
