Expand the family to view the family types.
Viewing Elements with a Specific Family Type in a Project
You can highlight all the elements in a project that use a specific family type.

Open a project view.

In the Project Browser, expand Families.

Expand the component category and family that contains the type that you want to select.

Select the desired type, right-click, and click Select All Instances.
NOTE
If the current project does not contain any elements that use that family type, the Select All
Instances tool is unavailable.
All elements in the view that use the family type are highlighted.
In the lower-right corner of the Revit window, the number of selected elements in the project
displays.

Open other project views.
Any of the elements that use the family type are highlighted.

Press
Esc
to restore the original display of the elements.
Creating an Element from a Family Type
Use this procedure to create an instance of a system family or loadable family using the Project Browser. For
information about creating an element from an instance in a project, see

To create an element from a family type

Do one of the following:

On the Home tab

Build panel, click the element that you want to create.
■
Select the family type in the Project Browser, and drag it to the drawing area.
■
Select the family type in the Project Browser, right-click, and click Create Instance.

On the Place <Element> tab

Element panel, from the Type Selector drop-down, select the
type of element that you want to create.
The list displays the available family types first by family or subfamily and then by type, separated
by a colon.

On the Options Bar, specify any necessary values or selections.

In the drawing area, click to place the element.

Create another element, or click Place <Element> tab

Select panel

Modify.
Changing the Family Type of an Element
To change the family type of an element in the drawing area of a project, do one of the following:
