Introduction
The interface to the CAN bus is a simple two-wire line. See
for a symbolic representation of the CAN transceiver intercon-
nection. The Blackfin processor’s
CANTX
output and
CANRX
input pins are
connected to an external CAN transceiver’s
TX
and
RX
pins, respectively.
Key features of the CAN module are:
• Conforms to the CAN 2.0B (active) standard
• Supports both standard (11-bit) and extended (29-bit) identifiers
• Supports data rates of up to 1 Mbit/second
• 32 mailboxes (8 transmit, 8 receive, 16 configurable)
• Dedicated acceptance mask for each mailbox
• Data filtering (first 2 bytes) can be used for acceptance filtering
(Device Net mode)
• Error status and warning registers
• Transmit priority by identifier
• Universal counter module
• Readable receive and transmit pin values
These modes support ADC/DAC connections, as well as video communi-
cation with hardware signalling. Many of the modes support more than
one level of frame synchronization. If desired, a programmable delay can
be inserted between assertion of a frame sync and reception/transmission
of data.
