Vent the MS. See the

Remove the column.
3 Disconnect the collision gas supply tubing.

Install a plug on the end of the collision gas tubing that leads into the
analyzer chamber.

Move the MS away from the GC.
6 Unplug the GC/MS interface heater cable from the GC.

Remove the front analyzer window and open the left side analyzer panel.

“To remove the MS covers” on page 80.

Finger-tighten the side plate thumbscrews for both analyzers. ( Figure 5 ).
9 Switch the MS on to establish a rough vacuum.
10 When you hear the hissing sound of the pumpdown, close the vent valve.
Continue the pumpdown for 2 to 3 minutes.
11 Switch the MS off.
12 Close the analyzer cover and replace the front analyzer window.
13 Disconnect the LAN, remote, and power cable.
C A U T I O N
Do not overtighten the side plate thumbscrews. Overtightening will strip the threads in
the analyzer chamber. It will also warp the side plate and cause leaks.
C A U T I O N
Always wear clean gloves while handling any parts that go inside the analyzer
chambers.
