Replacing a System Controller Fan
Shut Down the Controller:
1. Identify the failed fan by using the following information:
•
Error messages in the ICON Manager log
•
Environmentals View in ICON Manager indicates a fan failure
•
Fan failure LED on the controller front panel is red
2. In ICON Manager, select the Physical View for the system you want to work with.
3. Click the failed controller and choose Shutdown Controller from the Actions pane.
4. To confirm that you are powering down the correct controller, verify that the fault LED on the
front of the controller is on.
5. Select the Log View and look for a message confirming that the controller has failed over.
Replace the Controller Fan:
6. Put on the anti-static wrist strap and attach it to a grounded surface such as the rack
enclosure. Keep the wrist strap on for the remainder of this procedure.
7. Verify that all of the cables are labeled. When you have completed this procedure, all cables
need to reconnect in the same ports.
8. Disconnect all cables from the failed controller, including the power cords.
9. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the controller in the rack.
10. Pull the controller forward until it stops.
11. Remove the cover screw on the right side of the chassis. Press the release tabs to release
the cover from its locking position. Ensure the tabs are fully released before sliding the cover
off.
12. Locate the failed fan.
13. Press the release tab on the left side of the front chassis fan (when facing the front side of the
fan) to release it from its locking position as shown below.
