5.22 KVM

Switch

5.22.1 Overview

The Avocent DSR KVM over IP Switch allows remote access to the Hub
so long as the Hub has the IP connectivity to the Internet or the

customer network. This 16-port KVM Switch provides two simultaneous
digital paths for remote access to devices; the ability to remotely power

cycle connected devices; external modem support when the network is
down. The KVM switch also provides BIOS-level control of all connected
servers and serial devices from any location. The KVM switch features

an on-board Web interface compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla,
Firefox or Netscape for access and control of ArcLight servers over IP.
The ArcLight Hub components connect to the KVM Switch via Serial or

USB adapters. Figure 5-61 shows the KVM Switch hardware.

5.22.3 Installation

5.22.4 Configuration

The ArcLight Hub KVM Switch is initially configured using its serial
console port and subsequently configured using its Web Interface.
Minimally, the IP address must be configured. Please consult

manufacturer’s documentation for details of the configuration
procedures:

5.22.5 Operation

The ArcLight Hub KVM Switch is operated using its Web Interface.

5.22.6 Monitoring

Once installed and configured the KVM Switch requires little or no

monitoring. If needed it may be monitored from the Support Server
using IsItUp software via its IP address.

trouble-shooting instructions.
