4.5 APR 

Server 

 

4.5.1 Overview 

The Automatic Positioning Reporting Server (APR) is used to gather 
information on all the VMT’s within the ArcLight system. This 

information is used primarily for FCC license compliance by 
determining the number of VMT’s on at a given time and to provide 

positioning information for all the VMT’s if a satellite interference issue 
is suspected in the system. It has the secondary application of being 
able to analyze usage patterns within the system and also confirm that 

the system is not operational in radio quiet zones. 

 

4.5.2  Creating APRSERVER Service 

4.5.2.1 Service Necessity 

The APR Server uses a windows service application that is essentially a 

“wrapper” for any Windows application. It lets the application run 
undisturbed as a service and re-starts the application on boot-up of the 
machine, so user intervention is not necessary for the application to 

run. 

4.5.2.2  Obtaining the Srvany Application 

 

The srvany wrapper is a Microsoft application. The srvany files may be 
retrieved from the ArcLight Hub Software Installation media. 

 

Srvany.exe – Service application wrapper 

Instsrv.exe – Install services for srvany to run 

Srvany.wri – Documents all you can do with the srvany program 

 

Create a c:\srvany directory. Put these three files into the c:\srvany 
directory 

 

4.5.2.3  Creating the Windows Service 

 

1)  Open a DOS command prompt box. 

2)  Type the following command: 

c:\srvany\INSTSRV.EXE aprServer  

c:\srvany\srvany.exe 

3)  Confirm the message displayed shows the service was successfully 

added
