5.5.2 Physical
Interfaces
5.5.2.1 Ethernet Interfaces
The RtNMS front panel Ethernet interfaces are two RJ-45 GigE
10/100/1000 Base-T interfaces complying with the physical and
electrical characteristics of the IEEE 802.3 specifications, a COM1 port,
two USB ports, a VGA port for connection to the KVM switch display,
and a KB/MS port.
5.5.3 Installation
Refer to the
ArcLight Hub Installation Guide
for installation and
operating specifications information. For RtNMS software upgrades or
downgrades please consult specific release installation instructions.
A spare RtNMS is provided in the ArcLight network configuration.
Currently, only a cold spare RtNMS is supported. In such configuration
the spare RtNMS is configured with same IP addresses as the primary
RtNMS.
5.5.4 Configuration
The RtNMS applicationy is currently ran using the ‘root’ OS account.
Users can be added by using the SuSe Linux OS provided facilities, e.g.
YaST. The following directories are in use for the RtNMS application
software:
•
/home/arclight/rtnms - is the main working directory for the
RtNMS application software
•
/home/arclight/rtnms/logs is the logging directory for the
RtNMS application software
The ArcLight RtNMS must be configured with an IP address on the
main Hub subnet, usually 10.1.1.20/24. It’s 2
nd
Ethernet interface
should be configured to connect only with the MCD 2
nd
Ethernet
interface for exchange of control packets. The 2
nd
RtNMS Etherent
interface is typically configured on 192.168.10.0/24 subnet, e.g.
192.168.10.20/24. The IP addresses can be configured using standard
SuSe Linux OS facilities such as YaST.
Refer to Section 3 Screen Descriptions for NMS Clientfor information on
the configuration of the RtNMS Server application using NMS Client
GUI.
5.5.5 Operation
5.5.5.1 Automatic Startup
The RtNMS should start automatically on every boot up. This is
ensured by setting it up to run as a service in the SuSe Linux OS.
5.5.5.2 Manual Startup
Manual startup is only necessary in cases where automatic startup
does not yield the expected operation. To manually start the NMS
application, assuming you have already started the machine:
1.
Login as user=root
2.
To run the RtNMS server application open a new Terminal
session at the RtNMS console. Change directory to
