FXO Unit Extensions
Since FXO units are connected either directly to the PSTN or to a
PBX, the FXO extension numbers are represented by familiar PBX
extensions. Units 6 and 7 use the PBX extensions 70 through 73 and
74 through 77 respectively., or by conventional telephone numbers
e.g. units 9 and 10, which follow the rules of the PSTN, and include
number, area code, and long distance Access Codes.
Office Codes
Each BV1250 unit (AP, E&M, and FXO) must have an Office Code of 1
to 8 digits (including * and # symbols if desired) associated with it. This
code is mapped to the unit’s IP address and is used to route calls through
the unit.
For convenience, the sample network numbering plan has been set up so
that the BV1250 unit Office Codes are the same as the digits making up
the last octet of the unit IP addresses. For example, the IP address of Unit
1 in the New York office is 133.149.1.91 and the Office Code for that
unit is 91. This arrangement makes it easier to keep track of things, but is
not required.
In addition to unit Office Codes, PBXs and Hunt Groups must also have
Office Codes associated with them. These are also discussed below.
AP/FXS Unit Office Codes
As mentioned earlier, an AP/FXS unit’s Office Code is used in
dialing the destination number and provides direct access to the
units ports. In the sample network diagram, unit 8 in Los Angeles
has an Office Code of 31 and there is an extension numbered 2, the
extension is accessed with the numbers 31-2.
If an AP/FXS unit has a Hunt Pattern defined during unit
configuration, as is the case for the Chicago office Key Telephone
System, then calling Office Code 41 and any unit extension number
provides access to the first available unit port, (1, 2, 3 or 4)
irrespective of the extension number dialed.
E&M and PBX Office Codes
Although each E&M unit must have an Office Code associated with
it, this number is used only for associating the unit with the PBX
and is not used in accessing extensions. Instead, PBX Office Codes
are used for this purpose.
In the case of a PBX with E&M units connected to it, the PBX
Office Code identifies the PBX’s E&M interface. Calls using the
PBX Office Code are routed through the PBX and to the PBX
extensions. In the New York office example, calls can be routed to
