Numbering Systems
The BV1250 call numbering system is designed to permit easy integration
with existing private and public telephone networks.
Numbering plans can be constructed to correspond with those used in
existing networks. In addition, numbering plans can be configured to
expedite connection speed for frequently called numbers and enable
emergency connection with units.
C.1 Overview
BV1250 network calling numbers are mapped to the IP addresses used in
the network. This mapping may be configured with an H.323 Gatekeeper
device, in a DNS server configuration file, and/or within the BV1250’s
internal DNS.DAT file.
If the BV1250’s DNS.DAT capabilities are used, either exclusively, or in
conjunction with a DNS sever, the DNS.DAT file must be configured
identically in BV1250 units in the network. This is accomplished by
uploading the same DNS.DAT file to each unit in the network.
The basic numbering format for the BV1250 network is:

Unit/Group/PBX
Office Code
Extension Number
1 to 8 digits (0-9, *, and #)
These optional codes may be
configured to appear at the end
of the calling number sequence.

C.2 Numbering Plan Example
The sample network diagram on the following page shows the extension
numberings, Office Codes, and Access Codes associated with each element
of the network, including routers, BV1250 units, PBXs, Key Telephone
System, telephone sets, and fax terminals.
