When to Use the ECU
Run the ECU any time you add, move, or remove an EISA
board, ISA board, or PCI device. You must physically
install the boards in the computer and add the configuration
information stored in the computer by the ECU.
CAUTION: You must install an EISA, PCI, or Plug
and Play board or device
before running the ECU
utility. If installing a non-Plug and Play ISA board, it
must be installed
after running the ECU utility.
Use the ECU to
■
change or check system parameters when you add,
move, or remove an expansion board.
■
print out the required settings of a particular board or
option.
■
correct a hardware discrepancy when the Power-On
Self-Test (POST) displays an “Invalid EISA Configura-
tion Storage - RUN ECU” error message and prompts
you to run the ECU program.
■
boot the system and check parameters when you have a
problem with the system.
■
change functions and resources of boards installed in the
system.
■
resolve a resource conflict when adding a board or
changing a board function or resource.
■
lock and unlock boards in the configuration.
■
maintain the ECU Utility diskette.
■
set system parameters if the RTC/battery module is re-
placed.
