differential transmission
The sending of the positive and negative aspects of a data signal so that it arrives undistorted.

DIM
A card for the MN20 multiplexer. Accepts either formatted or unformatted data on
an
connection and packetizes this data for transmission in an MPEG-2
.
DIN connector
A plug and socket used to connect a variety of devices. DIN plugs are about 1/2-inch in
diameter, with pins inside in a circular pattern.
DiviTrack™
Harmonic’s proprietary closed loop statistical multiplex system. It is deployed using a variety
of implementations, which are typically designated by letters appended to DiviTrack, such as
DiviTrackIP. The DiviTrack system gives Harmonic’s encoders and multiplexers advanced
warning of upcoming material by using LookAhead™ technology, resulting in outstanding
compression efficiency, higher quality video, and better bandwidth utilization.
DiviTrack complexity
The average video complexity of the input video source during the sampling period. The
range is 1 to 100.
This is an indication of the relative difficulty of compressing a video source. The ratio of
DiviTrack complexity values between two sources is intended to indicate the relative bit rate
required to code the two sources with equal visual quality. The value is used to assign bit
rates to specific segments of a video sequence to attain constant visual quality. Usually, high
complexity requires more bits to compress the video to achieve good quality.
DiviTrackIP
Harmonic’s DiviTrack system deployed over IP interfaces
DiviTrackMX
Harmonic’s DiviTrack system deployed internally within a single multichannel encoder.
DiviTrackXE
Harmonic’s DiviTrack system deployed over ASI interfaces.
DLL
Dynamic Link Library. Typically in software applications, a specific function or set of functions
stored as a separate file. The main application loads the file only when needed.
DLM
A card for the MN20 multiplexer.
