Handheld mode measurement
4.6 Shift-OAE
1.
The green curve represents the effective signal.
2.
The red curve represents the average noise level.

The 2 indexes displayed on the right are the Minimum/Maximum values of the effective and average noise
signals.
You can suspend the acquisition at any time using the "
Pause
" button. This temporarily suspends acquisition when
the patient has a fit of coughing for instance, or to facilitate changes of the patient's position.
The rejection indicator light notifies you when the rejection threshold is reached. If 40 successive rejections are de-
tected, the current point is rejected and the "
Rejection
" information appears on the screen. This phenomenon indicates
that the acoustic noise is too high. There can be several causes for this:

The patient noise is too high. When the patient is more relaxed, measurement will start again automatically.
If the phenomenon persists, it means that the rejection threshold has been calibrated too low. Click on "
Pause
"
button for suspends acquisition, and increase the rejection threshold through the button. Restart the measure-
ment thanks to the "
Pause
" button.
2.
The probe is incorrectly positioned. It is possible that the probe moves during the measurement, in particular
if you are running postural tests. In this case, click on "
Stop
", replace the probe (paragraph
5.2.2
) and make
another measurement.
3.
The ambient noise is too high. The intrinsic noise in the room in which you are making the measurement must
not exceed 60 dB.
The "
Stop
" button stops the measurement. Once data acquisition is over, the curve is reconstructed. You then have
the choice of saving the data by clicking on "
Save
" or deleting it by exiting the window using the back cross (a message
requesting you to confirm the deletion appears: answer by yes or no).

Prerequisites for exploitation of the measure
If most points on a curve relate to a
𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑙
𝑁𝑜𝑖𝑠𝑒
ratio of less than 6dB, we advise you not to use the curve as it is. You can
act on several parameters to improve measurement quality:

Restart a measurement while increasing the number of averages needed to acquire a point, for instance by adding

Restart a measurement by increasing the acoustic stimulation intensity by +3
dB
.

The distortion products are particularly sensitive to auditory losses and ambient noise around the stimulation fre-
quency. Restart a measurement by shifting the stimulation frequency by
±
30
Hz
.
