5.5 SCSI Cable Length

If the total length of internal and external cable used in a chain of storage

devices exceeds 236 inches (599 centimeters), the drives may not operate

correctly and transmitted data may be lost. To make sure that the drives in a

chain operate properly, put no more than three expansion boxes in one chain;

or make sure that the total length of SCSI cables in the chain does not exceed

the 236-inch limit. Table 5–1 lists the length of the SCSI cables linking the

drives inside each type of expansion box, as well as the lengths of SCSI cables

that you use to connect the external storage devices to the system unit and to

each other. The table is as accurate as possible, but actual lengths may vary

by an inch or two.
