WARNING 

The change in V memory, Timer/Counter presets, or Drum presets may cause unexpected 

operation which could cause damage to equipment, personal injury, or death when the PLC is 

placed in RUN mode. Ensure that you have designed the program to accommodate these 

changes.  

11.2 Using Flash Memory 

Using your programming software, you can: 

•

  Erase a program in flash memory,  

•

  Copy a User Program from User Program RAM to flash memory, 

•

  Select User Program RAM or flash memory as the program source, 

•

  Copy a User Program from flash memory to User Program RAM. 

 

NOTE  

The controller must be in Program mode before you can perform flash memory operations.  

 

NOTE 

Programming software that supports both CTI 2500 Series and SIMATIC 505® systems may refer to flash 

memory as EEPROM.   

11.2.1 Erasing a Program in Flash Memory 

If a User Program is already stored in flash memory, you must erase the User Program flash 
area before another program can be written to it. This action is required to maintain compatibility 
with legacy programming software as well as to provide some protection from inadvertently 
overwriting a program stored in flash memory.  
 

NOTE 

If the Program Source is set to Flash, it will be automatically changed to RAM after the flash is erased.  

11.2.2 Copying a program to Flash Memory 

Once the User Program flash is cleared, you can store the User Program in flash memory by 
copying the User Program from RAM to Flash.   

11.2.3 Selecting the User Program Source 

Your programming software allows you to choose between RAM and Flash as the program 
source. Once a User Program has been stored in flash memory, selecting Flash as the program 
source will clear the User Program RAM and copy the User Program from flash memory to the 
User Program RAM area.   

 

NOTE 

Because V memory is not stored in flash memory, changing the User Program Source to Flash will clear 

V memory.
