CHAPTER 9
TROUBLESHOOTING
This section provides information that you may find useful in diagnosing and correcting
problems you may encounter with using the CTI 2500 Controller
9.1 Troubleshooting Aids
9.1.1 LED Indicators
The status LEDs and the Multi Segment Display (MSD) can be used to determine the type of
failure.
•
If the CPU Good LED is not illuminated and the MSD displays FE, a fatal error has
occurred. You can use your programming software to display the cause of the fatal error.
The system Event Log can also be used to detect the cause of a fatal error. See Section
9.3 below.
•
If the CPU Good LED is not illuminated and the MSD displays an E followed by a two
digit number, a startup error or a firmware update error has occurred. The two digit
number provides the cause of the failure. See Section 9.2 below for startup errors. See
Section 10.4 for firmware update errors.
9.1.2 Event Log and Diagnostic Statistics
The event log and diagnostics can be accessed by the controller web pages. You can access
the web pages using a standard web browser by entering the controller IP address in the
browser URL field.
The event log maintains a time stamped record of significant software events. All fatal and non-
fatal errors result in an entry into the event log. Since the event log is stored in battery backed
memory, it will be maintained over a power cycle as long as battery power is present.
The diagnostic statistic web pages provide a means to analyze the operation of various
controller subsystems, such as the remote I/O or Ethernet port.
9.1.3 System Status Words
The controller maintains an array of words that provide the status of various module
subsystems. The words may be accessed using your programming software or by the user
program. See APPENDIX B. – SYSTEM STATUS WORDS.
9.2 Startup Errors
Startup errors prevent the application firmware from executing. They are typically the result of
corrupted or missing application firmware. When a startup error occurs, the CPU Good LED will
not be illuminated and the MSD will display an error code indicating the cause of the error.
